Let\’s face it, whatever you know or have read about Search Engine Optimization has probably changed in the past 3-6 months. Google and Bing are the main players. We all cater to their needs, wants, and any changes they recommend to improve page rank. Link farms and PR based Press Release pages are shaky ground and the rules they play by are being tightened every day (it seems).

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, has some basic inarguable concepts based in clean, semantic markup and CSS that validate against the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) HTML and CSS validators. From there we look at title, URL, keyword density, META and ALT tags, backlinks, indexes and rank.

We took these factors and what we consider best practices on SEO and developed an algorithm to grade a URL based on 5 to 7 keywords per page. The result we wrapped in A free tool for the web developer community to gauge SEO performance during development.
